Make in India Boosts EV Charger Production: Local Manufacturing on the Rise
India’s push for electric mobility has found a new ally — local EV charger manufacturers. Under the “Make in India” mission, several startups and OEMs have ramped up domestic production of EV charging equipment, reducing import dependency and costs.
Cities like Pune, Noida, and Chennai are emerging as manufacturing hubs for fast chargers, AC wall-boxes, and charging controllers. This has led to job creation and technology partnerships with global players.
“We aim to make India not just an EV user, but an EV innovation leader,” said a senior official from the Ministry of Heavy Industries.
Local Production Gains Momentum
Indian companies are now producing:
- ⚙️ CCS2 and Type-2 compatible public chargers
- 🏠 Home EV charging kits with mobile integration
- 🔋 Battery management systems for smart charging

Policies Fueling Growth
Schemes like **PLI (Production Linked Incentive)** for Advanced Chemistry Cells and **FAME-II** are supporting indigenous production. Additionally, state governments are offering tax rebates and subsidies to EV hardware manufacturers.
This local focus is helping create a robust, self-reliant EV charging ecosystem that meets India’s climate goals while fostering innovation and entrepreneurship.
